New AncIllary Services (NAIS) for the Smart Grid

At the 4th International Conference on ICT for Sustainability (ICT4S)

To meet the goal of decarbonizing our economy, new sustainable ways to create economic and social value must be designed. The smart grid (SG) provides an open canvas to conceive and experiment with new ideas for optimizing power and economic flows, while promoting sustainability.

Although many smart grid projects focus on technical and operational aspects, such as improving energy efficiency, they usually pay little attention to value co-creation opportunities for both customers and operators. To address this issue, we aim to promote the design of new ancillary services that not only solve operational issues but also create economic and social value, which may ultimately influence the sustainability of such services. The design of these services, nonetheless, requires close collaboration between business developers, domain experts, society and scientists.  This is precisely the purpose of the NAIS workshop.

Objectives

- Exchange knowledge regarding current trends in the design and implementation of sustainable services for the SG,

- Promote the discussion of key issues (e.g. privacy), and

- Find collaboration opportunities among participants such as building up consortia to apply for funding (e.g. H2020, EUREKA and Eurostars).

TOPICS

Smart Grid - Sustainability - Economics - Game Theory - Mechanism design - Artificial Intelligence - Design thinking - Computer science - Business modeling - Complexity science

PUBLIC

NAIS is open to researchers (academia & industry) journalists, policy makers and NGOs.

On a voluntary basis, participants are encouraged to send a summary and prepare a short  presentation of their current activities/projects. Written papers are not required.
