OekoFoire 2015: A look back at the event

Published on 28/09/2015

On 25-27 September 2015, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) participated in the 28th edition of OekoFoire, the annual Greater Region environmental fair. Its first participation as the new LIST resulted in a fruitful weekend of discussion and raising awareness on pesticide use.

Pesticides and their impact on water resources

During the three-day event, held at Luxexpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, numerous visitors spoke with LIST researchers, who seized the opportunity to offer visitors a stand presenting pesticides regularly used by individuals in their garden, in order to raise awareness of the impact that the misuse of such products can have on water resources.

Visitors learned about the use, the dangers and the alternatives to pesticides, products contaminating the ecosystem and stagnating in the environment, and discovered the research carried out in the area of water security and safety.

Interactive quizzes on new hazard pictograms

Through two interactive quizzes, visitors also had the chance to test their knowledge on the new hazard pictograms used to label chemical products, which entered into force on 1 June 2015.

PRESENTATION for partners

On Friday, 25 September, Camille Gira, State Secretary of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, visited the LIST stand and participated in the presentation entitled "The use of pesticides by individuals and their impact on water" given by Lucien Hoffmann and Paul Schosseler, respectively Director and Deputy Director of the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department.
