Published on 03/10/2016

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is pleased to announce that Prof. Philippe Dubois, Director of the « National Composite Center – Luxembourg » (NCC-L), has recently received the highest award of the Russian AM Prokhorov Academy of Engineering Sciences: the Semenov Medal.

A best-in-class technology platform: the NCC-L in brief

As officially announced by the end of 2015, with the creation of the NCC-L in Luxembourg, the actors involved in both public and private research pool their skills through a technology platform, with the objective to boost the development and the processing of innovative materials in Luxembourg. The activities focus on two major areas: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, and sustainable materials closely linked to the circular economy.

The NCC-L operated by LIST will act as a major accelerator for Luxembourg's composite industry, and will play a key role in attracting talents and industry investment, supporting the Luxembourg materials and manufacturing sector. The aim of the platform is to allow Luxembourg SMEs to develop new technology building blocks and prototypes to accelerate their products to global markets.

Outstanding achievements in engineering sciences for Philippe Dubois

The Director of the NCC-L, Philippe Dubois, has received the most prestigious award of the AM Prokhorov Academy of Engineering Sciences (AES): the Semenov Medal, of the name of Nikolai Nikolaevich Semenov (1896-1986), one of the founders of physical chemistry, creator of the polymer theory and author of works on chemical kinetics, Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1956.

The Semenov Medal is a prize that can be awarded to a Russian or foreign scientist or engineer who has made a major contribution to the development of physical and chemical sciences, chemical engineering, materials and manufacturing. Philippe Dubois has been rewarded for his outstanding achievements in engineering sciences. This medal, that can only be received once, adds up to a series of awards won by Prof. Philippe Dubois, among them the equally prestigious “Prix Quinquennal” of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research in 2015.
