LIST's researcher to contribute to the editing of two international journals

Published on 25/08/2015

As a result of its activities in Materials and expertise in the field of biobased polymer and nanocomposite materials, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) will contribute to the editing of two international journals.

Dr Habibi is a researcher working in the LIST's Materials Research and Technology (MRT) department. He will take part in a special issue of the Journal of Nanomaterials and in a new open access journal "Polymer Sciences Collection”.

Special issue of the Journal of Nanomaterials

Together with researchers from Norway, Argentina, and Sweden, LIST's researcher Dr Youssef Habibi has been invited to be guest editor of a special issue related to bionanocomposites in Journal of Nanomaterials (Hindawi Publisher).

This special issue on bionanocomposites will gather scientific articles dealing with recent advances on the use of renewable resources in the development of biocomposites at the nanoscale. Indeed, the use of renewable resources as raw materials for novel biocomposites is a research field of major current interest worldwide. Environmentally-sound lignocellulose-based materials are expected to become a substitute for current oil derived products, thus addressing the future bioeconomy. The articles in this issue should not only advance cutting-edge research in related areas, but also bring these life-shaping technologies and knowledge to general audiences and increase their awareness to the public. Both theoretical and experimental studies on the roles of lignocellulose-based nanomaterials and bioplastics on bionanocomposites and their effects on processing, structures, and properties are within the interests of this special issue.

The special issue on bionanocomposites is also strongly linked to biobased polymers and related composites researches activities developed at MRT department like Biobased and Functional Composites.

SpringerPlus Polymer Sciences Collection

Together with researchers from France and the USA, Dr Youssef Habibi has been appointed as editor of a new open access journal “Polymer Sciences Collection”, a new venue for research in the field of (bio)polymers and (bio)materials. This new collection is part of the SpringerPlus Collections and it is considered to be a 'sister journal' to Polymer Bulletin, providing a new Open Access forum for the publication of scientifically valuable manuscripts.

The SpringerPlus Polymer Sciences Collection spans the whole organic/inorganic spectrum: the majority of articles focus on synthetic organic (bio)polymers and the remaining on inorganic ones. The Collection is focused on the chemistry, characterization, processing, modelling, compounding and shaping and engineering applications of (bio)polymers as well as ceramic precursors. See the full description on springerplus.com.

This new journal covers many activities related to polymer and polymer-based nanomaterials and composites developed at LIST particularly at MRT.
