Construction: LIST is off to a flying start this September in the field of BIM

Published on 25/09/2015

This September was full of activity for the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) in the field of construction. LIST experts in Building Information Modelling (BIM) co-organised the annual OAI/LIST conference on 21 September 2015, and also contributed to the "Digital BIM Mock-up" colloquium organised by Pan Urbanisme Construction Architecture (PUCA) in Paris on 10 September 2015.

A conference dedicated to continuing education: BIM in the spotlight

The conference, organised every fall by the Architects and Consulting Engineers (OAI) and LIST, honoured professionals in the construction sector with the presentation of their certificates of participation in the 2014-2015 edition of the “Training cycle for architects and consulting engineers", a ceremony attended by Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure François Bausch.

During the conference, Pierre Hurt, Director of the OAI, first talked about the highlights of the last training cycle. Then Jos Dell, Chairman of the OAI, and Sylvain Kubicki, a researcher at LIST, addressed the theme of BIM. The subject is indeed central for the construction sector, both in Luxembourg and elsewhere. They detailed recent international developments and initiatives in Luxembourg, focusing particularly on the organisational and technological impacts of this approach on OAI professions.

Recent research by LIST, in line with current developments in the Luxembourgish construction sector, was also presented:

  • The BIMetric method for assessing the maturity and identifying the ROI of BIM.
  • The project BIM_RIDE, which focuses on the coordination of interdisciplinary 3D digital mock-ups.

Max Von Roesgen, OAI Board Member, concluded the event by presenting the 2015-2016 training cycle, available online on the OAI website.

LIST projects awarded for good practices and digital innovation

At the "Digital BIM Mock-up” colloquium, organised in Paris by the French Ministry of Housing, Territorial Equality and Rural Affairs and the French Building Federation, 34 construction projects were awarded for their good practices and digital innovation. Throughout the summer, LIST contributed to the expertise of these 34 files, submitted by clients, designers and construction companies, which were presented to the jury on 7 September 2015. The methodology "Evaluation of the integration of BIM in the collaborative practices of an operation"(BIMetric) was tested on this occasion and allowed a uniform assessment of the files.

These construction projects, with 19 presented the "Good Practices" award and 15 the "Process Concepts, Ideas, Services" award, are contributing to the development of the use of digital models in response to the call for proposals put out by PUCA and its partners, as part of the Digital Building Transition Plan launched by the ministry.

Upcoming BIM event

LIST’s activities will continue next week, with the Open BIM Tour 2015 in Switzerland. Our experts in BIM will take part to present the results of their latest research and experiments on the themes of "ROI of BIM" and "3D Coordination." Three half-days of presentations and demonstrations will be held in Fribourg, Lausanne and Cointrin from 30 September to 2 October 2015. Full details available on the event page.
