Our PhD community

At LIST, our doctoral researchers form a vibrant, international, and multidisciplinary community driving innovation across a variety of expertise.

While most doctoral researchers are enrolled at the University of Luxembourg, some collaborate with international universities to access specialized expertise. Many thesis projects are conducted under co-supervision agreements, giving candidates the advantage of combined guidance and global networks.

In addition to structured cohort programs, LIST supports numerous individual doctoral projects, funded nationally or internationally, which enrich the research landscape and strengthen the diversity and impact of our PhD community.

Olivier Guillon

CEO of LIST

Doctoral researchers at LIST play an essential role by bringing fresh ideas and energy to our institution, while also learning to manage their own projects. Being trained as responsible scientists, they become true LIST ambassadors.

Doctoral Training Programmes

LIST offers comprehensive doctoral training programmes designed to support scientific excellence, interdisciplinary research, and career development.

Through the PRIDE programme funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), LIST coordinates four Doctoral Training Units: HYMAT, SUSPOCO, FORFUS, and SPETRA. These Doctoral Training Units provide PhDs with:

  • Structured and comprehensive training frameworks
  • Interdisciplinary research opportunities
  • Dedicated supervision and mentorship
  • International mobility experiences
  • Collaborative environments across institutions and disciplines

Through the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) Industrial Partnership Block Grants, we provide doctoral researchers with the opportunity to work on industry-driven challenges in close collaboration with leading industrial partners. These projects connect doctoral work to real-world applications, fostering hands-on innovation.
