The effect of vegetation, geology and relief on the runoff processes, sediment yield and landscape

I have studied runoff processes in several small catchments in Japan in different soil thickness, geology and relief, and found that the runoff processes and response have been controlled by soil thickness, and also bedrock permeability, and relief. Also, the hydrological processes during an extreme event can cause the changing of the hydrological settings (loss of soils, bedrocks) occasionally, but these processes are important geomorphic processes, causing the entire landscapes. I will describe some of my past work in Japan and emphasize the importance of a general understanding of the interaction between hydrological processes and geomorphic processes.
