Material Inventory and ressource management during deconstruction projects

Since several years Building deconstruction has gained in importance over the conventional demolition, on the one hand due to stricter legislation and on the other because of the fact that demolition waste is suitable for reuse or recycling. The Luxembourgish Law on Waste stipulates that, when a building is demolished, an inventory of the building materials should be produced beforehand and material fractions should be separately collected at the construction site to allow for high-quality valorisation.

In cooperation with the Chamber of Crafts (Chambre des Métiers), the SuperDrecksKëscht® and the Environment Administration, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is organizing a colloquium to discuss how a material inventory can be drawn up and how the materials occurring during dismantling can be handled in an efficient manner.

The event takes place on 11 October 2017, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Chamber of Crafts/ Chambre des Métiers, 2 Circuit de La Foire Internationale, 1347 Luxembourg.

In order to assist companies to fulfill their legal obligations, LIST in cooperation with the Environment Administration has drawn up a guide on how to establish a material inventory which will be presented at the event. The SuperDrecksKëscht® fir Betriber will illustrate how efficient material management can be achieved at the construction site and how sorting and collection stations can be optimised to save space.

Practical experiences from various deconstruction projects will be given by Schroeder & Associés as well as the Dutch company GBN, whereby costs and resources are also compared between selective dismantling and conventional demolition. The event will offer sufficient time for discussion with the participants. A networking cocktail after the event also gives the opportunity to meet and exchange with speakers and participants.

All companies active in the fields of deconstruction, demolition, waste management, pollutant investigation and decontamination and everybody interested in these areas.

The aim of the event is to understand the basic principles and approach of a material inventory in the field of deconstruction as well as to gain insights into the real life practice of deconstruction and material valorisation.
