As part of the LIST Water Lectures series organised for the fall session 2018, the next event will take place on 25 September 2018 at LIST premises in Belvaux (LU).
Prof. Michael Bau from the Jabobs University of Bremen (D) will be the invited speaker and will make an oral presentation on « Rare Earth Elements: from geochemical proxies to emerging micro contaminants ».
While the rare earth elements (REE) have a rather long history as geochemical proxies in igneous and aqueous systems, their emergence as micro contaminants only started some 20 years ago, when anthropogenic REE were first traced in rivers and lakes. Today, they have been tracked in drinking water, beverages and mussels, demonstrating that anthropogenic REE managed to enter the food chain.
