VALUES workshop

VALUES is an international research project funded by the National Research Fund (FNR) of Luxembourg within the framework of its FNR CORE activities. The project, led by the RDI Unit on Life Cycle Sustainability and Risk Assessment at the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), started in 2014 and is now moving towards its end. This workshop represents the conclusive phase of the VALUES activities. The event aims to present the project results to the broad public and disseminate scientific information to target stakeholders.

Through the collaboration with partners from the Netherlands, Italy and USA, VALUES has contributed to advance the knowledge on how to model and assess the impacts and changes generated by human activities on the value of natural capital and ecosystem services. More specifically, the project has developed, and tested over different spatial and temporal scales (including Luxembourg), an innovative products life cycle impact assessment methodology that can support the analysis of land use (change) impacts on ecosystems and their capacity to deliver goods and services for the well-being of people.

The workshop is divided in two sessions. In the first session, researchers from the project team will describe the main tasks accomplished in VALUES and illustrate the project outcomes. While the second session is dedicated to the “After-VALUES”, in which invited experts from different locations in Europe and USA will offer their vision on the evaluation of ecosystem services, to extend the VALUES results and pave the way to follow-up actions that may have practical implications for the society. A round-table where all speakers can answer key-questions, followed by a cocktail session open to all attendees will close the event, which is held in English in accordance with the international framework underpinning the project.
