The Greentech Innovation Centre of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology is an open innovation facility for the development of bio-based products and processes of industrial interest, new biorefinery concepts for more efficient and sustainable processes, and new technologies for the detection and treatment of environmental pollution. The centre also offers facilities for process upscaling and can host companies for Joint Labs.
More than 60 scientists and engineers can offer complementary competences to support clients from the generation of an idea through laboratory and pilot stages all the way to market-ready sustainable and safer substances, ingredients, and products. We also support customers in the optimisation of existing solutions at all steps of product and process development.
Innovations are typically based on industrial biotechnology, molecular biology techniques, metabolic engineering, culture of plant cell lines and microorganisms (bacteria, yeast, fungi, microalgae), anaerobic digestion, biocatalysis, green chemistry and product formulation.
Engineers at the centre have developed hardware for waste water treatment, focussed on the removal of micro-pollutants including pharmaceuticals; mainly based on adsorption and microbial remediation. The technological offer includes the development of biocatalysts (enzymes, microbes, microbial consortia) and specific bioprocesses, including a range of prototypes for process monitoring and control, pilot plants for bioenergy production.
We develop new methods for the detection and identification of bacteria, viruses and protists and support you in the risk assessment and development of risk management strategies for biological agents.
We also develop in vitro models for the assessment of effects of exposure to pollutants and the expertise cover in vitro models for human safety and eco-toxicology.
Companies’ needs towards “Safer and Sustainable-by design” products and processes are supported by our experts in sustainability, health and environmental risk assessment of substances, products and processes, regarding all lifecycle phases of a product or process:
Last but not least, our unique set of equipment and infrastructure allows us to perform bioprocesses at industrial scale.
Through a combination of partnerships and licensing of its intellectual property rights, LIST seeks to reduce private sector risk in early-stage technologies, enable investment in the adoption of green technologies, fostering competitiveness in Luxembourg and its Greater Region.
Our team has developed experience in intellectual property and helping industrial partners commercialise technologies (from true collaboration to subcontracting).
LIST can also activate the Luxembourg innovation ecosystem to find the best way to support financially your venture.
Our unique state-of-the-art facilities for biotechnologies research allow our customers and researchers to develop solutions from lab to industrial scale. The platform can perform a range of analytical services and relies on its instrumentation, infrastructure and know-how to offer “à la carte” analyses. Overall, the surface area of the facilities for bioprocess engineering comprises 500 m2.
