At Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), we have developed a technological platform able to fabricate piezoelectric ceramics and films, notably by sol gel and inkjet printing techniques. The materials we develop are oxides from the perovskite family, which stand for the best piezoelectric materials ever. The intern will have access to our state-of-the-art technology platform including several deposition means, a clean room, chemical labs and an extensive characterization platform. We have on-site Raman spectrometry, X-Ray diffraction, Secondary Ions Mass Spectrometry but also dedicated electrical and mechanical characterizations allowing for a complete understanding of the way the developed piezoelectric films behave.
Application wise, we are interested in vibrating energy harvesters based on piezoelectric materials. These devices are of strong interest regarding autonomous wireless sensor networks.
The purpose of this internship will be the electrical and mechanical characterizations of LIST energy harvesters based on our technology. The specific characterization tools are an impedance analyzer, a vibrometer, a piezoelectric set-up and an in-house energy harvesting platform. Inkjet printing fabrication technology could also be developed during this internship according to the candidate motivation for an optimized version of energy harvesters.
