At the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), we have developed a technological platform able to fabricate basic passive planar high-frequency microwave/mm wave devices based on polar oxide dielectric films with well-defined electrode structures. Film and electrode deposition is based on sol gel and inkjet printing techniques as well as photolithography. The dielectrics typically belong to the perovskite family and possess a very high dielectric permittivity. The intern will have access to our state-of-the-art technology platform including a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)/probe station setup, several deposition means, and an extensive characterization platform. We have on-site Raman spectrometry and X-Ray diffraction, but also dedicated characterization methods allowing for a complete understanding of dielectric properties from dc to optical frequencies.
Application wise, we are interested in transmission lines based on ferroelectric materials. These devices are of strong interest regarding autonomous wireless sensor networks.
The purpose of this internship is the design and testing of mm-wave coplanar waveguide structures based on our technology. The design is based on the Comsol simulation software platform, the main characterization tool is the VNA/probe station setup. Inkjet printing fabrication technology could also be improved during this internship according to the candidate motivation.
