Master Student Internship in Inkjet Printing of Transparent Piezoelectrics (M/F)

Context

 

At LIST, we have developed a technological platform able to process high-quality piezoelectric thin films by chemical solution deposition. The functional films we develop are oxides from the perovskite family, i.e., materials with largest piezoelectric response. An important pillar of the platform is deposition of solutions via inkjet printing, which enables direct patterning of piezoelectric structures. Using this approach the consumption of the starting precursors is reduced and several patterning steps can be omitted resulting in significant decrease of manufacturing costs. 

 

Description

 

Trainee will use the existing knowledge on inkjet printing of piezoelectrics on silicon and perform it on alternative substrates. The work will consist of the following steps:

  • synthesis of the inks (based on chemical solution deposition);
  • inkjet printing (jetting of the inks, control of interaction of the inks with the substrate, crystallization at high temperatures);
  • microstructural and electromechanical characterization of the structures.

Trainee will have the opportunity to perform multidisciplinary work in state-of-the-art chemical laboratory, clean room and characterization facilities of LIST. He/she will have access to different processing techniques, such as inkjet printer and rapid thermal annealing, together with different characterization techniques, including scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer, profilometer, spectrophotometer, ferroelectric and piezoelectric testers.

  • Last year master student (Master 2) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science (or related)

Competencies

  • Strong taste for experimental work
  • Experience with processing of nanomaterials is an asset

Language

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
