PhD student in Data Science for Connected, Cooperative and Autonomous Mobility (F/M)

Context

 

Autonomous and connected vehicles have now become a reality, and although extensive tests are already underway around the world, there are still many concerns about their actual deployment. In this context, LIST is looking for a highly motivated candidate who will work on topics related to Trusted AI for Connected, Cooperative and Autonomous Mobility.

 

Description

 

The candidate will have to investigate two main technological avenues, by working on two EU-funded projects. First, the candidate will explore what new communication technologies, such as 5G, can concretely bring to future mobility scenarios. Secondly, the candidate will focus on how these technologies can be perceived by future users. The candidate will need to work on simulation tools (e.g. SUMO, OMNeT++, MatSIM) on each of these two directions in order to develop and interpret usage scenarios that would be impossible to reproduce in reality. This will naturally come with other additional topics, setting up and exploring databases that aggregate a variety of trust metrics (e.g. network, behavioural, road data), and their conversion into relevant indicators to generate recommendations for future users interacting with autonomous vehicles (cars, drones, etc.). Finally, the candidate will be in charge of disseminating and promoting the research activities that will be carried out, whether through publications, patents, prototype development or technical reports. This can potentially be done through a PhD research work.

Education

  • Master in Computer Sciences

Competencies

  • Background in statistical computing, data analytics – including proven experience with AI. Experience with R or Python is an advantage
  • Solid software development skills. Proven experience with Java, C++, road and/or network traffic simulators is an advantage (e.g. SUMO, OMNeT++, MatSIM)
  • Knowledge in communication networks. Experience in VANETs is an advantage
  • Knowledge in IT security and privacy is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of Linux based operating systems

Language

  • Fluency in English is mandatory
