The HDCE unit (https://www.list.lu/en/research/itis/human-dynamics-in-cognitive-environments/) from the ITIS department of LIST is looking for a trainee for a mission of research and development focused on implementing and testing personalization and Augmented Reality solutions on a mobile app for smart city. HDCE (Human Dynamics in Cognitive Environments) studies and implement solutions for Cyber-Physical Social Systems formed by humans interacting with connected objects and embedded in physical spaces.
The successful candidate will join the ADAPT research group, which focuses on Knowledge-based Context-Aware Adaptive Systems. She/he will integrated in the research group, working with the Group Leader and the Engineer responsible of the mobile app. The internship will take place at the premises of LIST in the “Maison de l’Innovation” situated in Esch/Alzette, Luxembourg.
In the context of a European research project (www.crosscult.eu), we have developed a mobile app and web applications for the design, discovery and sharing of geo-localised points of interests (POI). The mobile app is designed like a game where users can walk from a POI to another, discovering stories about places, buildings or parts of their environment, can like or comment POIs and even create their own POIs that they can share with other users.
The goal of the traineeship will be to enhance the mobile app ecosystem, so that they support 1) automated personalization features, including for example user profiling and recommendation of POIs to see or stories/comments to read; and 2) Augmented Reality features, to transform the user experience. This will be realized following an experimental approach where developed features have to be systematically evaluated in real settings with users. The user studies will be used to assess the usefulness of the new features and their impact on the user experience.
The project involves: 1) programming the new features with state of the art solutions (a small state of the art survey might be asked); 2) testing with users and leading questionnaire-based interviews to gather user feedback on user experience; and 3) analyzing the user survey to conclude on features’ usefulness and impact on user experience.
