Context

 

The Process Engineering and Prototyping group is part of the Materials Research and technology department at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Prototyping, upscaling and process development for organic, inorganic and hybrid functional coatings using chemical and physical deposition from the gas phase are the centre of activities in this group. The current PhD subscribes within the SANS4NCC project in collaboration with Luxembourg University and targeting the investigation of magnetoelectric nanocomposite coatings. The developments within this PhD concerns the design, realization, characterization, and performance evaluation of responsive magnetoelectric nanocomposite coatings. This type of coatings is a relevant building block of various multifunctional devices.

 

Description

 

We are seeking a PhD Candidate with a multidisciplinary background and interest to cover various aspects of the project:

  • Hetero-epitaxial growth of ferroelectric and piezoelectric coatings
  • Controlled growth of ferromagnetic compounds
  • Elemental, structural and textural characterization of thin films
  • Growth and architecture control of nanocomposite coatings
  • Magnetic and electric characterization
  • Magnetoelectric coupling evaluation
  • Implementation of multi-physics simulation tools to guide the nanocomposite design

Master degree in a relevant field:

  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Physics or closely related fields
  • Materials science
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Surface Chemistry
  • Analytical chemistry and physics
  • Physics of thin films

Required seniority

  • Master thesis in the field of materials science

Competencies

  • Experimental and solid theoretical background in thin films synthesis
