The LIST Water Lectures series covers various aspects of water resources research towards a sustainable river basin management.
The next seminar will be held on 18 April 2018.
Getting real about forest canopies and rainfall interception: What pathways does water take to groundwater?
Longstanding models of water balance in wet forest canopies that treat forests as spatially homogeneous systems are broadly useful in eco-hydrological research but do not couple well with important concepts of vadose zone hydrology such as preferential flow. A new observational base is urgently needed to support the next generation of eco-hydrological models. Prof. Keim will discuss his recent work to understand spatial and temporal variability in water movement through wet canopies using both hydrometric and tracer data, and present model results that link forest effects on tracers at the plot and watershed scales.
