The intermediate workshop of the project ML4SCOPF (Machine learning-based enhancements of security-constrained optimal power flow computations), funded jointly by FNR and FNRS, focuses on the hurdles of the energy transition toward renewable-dominated electricity supply and the role of machine learning methods to support this transition.
The workshop is organized in two modules, the first being devoted to pure power grid issues to be overcome during the energy transition while the second focusing on machine learning challenges and applications in support to the energy transition.
The workshop has two objectives:
09:30 - Registration
10:00 - Introduction to ML4SCOPF project (Florin Capitanescu, LIST & Louis Wehenkel, ULiège)
10:10 - Short presentation of the LIST activities in sustainable energy (André Madureira, LIST)
10:20 - Coupling of Frequency and Voltage Control in Low-Inertia Sytems (Federico Milano, UCD)
10:50 - Reactive power scarcity and Var planning during the energy transition (Elnaz Davoodi, LIST)
11:20 - Overview of the final results of the FlexPlan project: new grid planning methodology, simulations, regulatory reflections (Gianluigi Migliavacca, RSE)
11:50 - Q&A and further discussion
12:00 - Lunch break
13:30 - Overview of machine learning research activities in power systems at LIST (Jun Cao, LIST)
13:40 - Trusthworthy Machine Learning for AC OPF (Spyros Chatzivalileiadis, DTU)
14:10 - Graph Neural Networks for Power Systems Operation (Balthazar Donon, RTE France & University of Liège)
14:40 - Data Generation for Constructing AI/ML Models in support to SCOPF (Nipun Popli, ex-ULiège)
15:10 - Final discussion and closure
