LIST reported that, building upon a "successful" history of research and development projects, the two entities signed a new agreement on Wednesday 13 December 2023 to strengthen their collaboration in the realm of decarbonisation. The focus of this five-year partnership will be on the direct reduced iron and electric arc furnace (DRI/EAF) route, with an emphasis on the long carbon segment.
Over the past three years, ongoing discussions with ArcelorMittal have culminated in the finalisation of a list of ten research projects (non-exhaustive), which will fall under the scope of this partnership. Moreover, the Forge collaboration which began in 2019 and which is set to conclude next year, will transition into this extended partnership, ensuring its continuity. LIST recalled that the Forge is a concept where ideas and possible project leads are developed and tested as part of ArcelorMittal's transition process towards circular and decarbonised steel production.
With a current five-year contract that is renewable, the new collaboration is expected to span a decade.
