With the support of Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity (MECB) and its Environmental Agency (AEV), people in Luxembourg now have access to almost ten years of environmental research carried out by LIST.
More than 20 research, innovation and monitoring projects have been selected and brought together in a report to highlight the various initiatives undertaken to preserve the environment and public health while ensuring a strong economy. The report presents three major environmental themes covered by LIST: biodiversity monitoring, water monitoring and management, and research support for environmental policies and Luxembourg businesses.
Driven by the Environment Ministry and its agencies, this publication is available online in French and English. As reported by LIST, readers will discover in a "concise manner" what environmental pressures this research addresses, how it is conducted, the results already obtained and future prospects.
Some of these initiatives also feature a citizen science approach. The Luxembourg public can thus find out how to take part in research initiatives that will shape tomorrow's world. The first results obtained thanks to the participation of volunteers in monitoring cyanobacteria blooms in Luxembourg's water bodies are a practical example in this respect, noted LIST.
"Although these environmental research projects address very different issues, they all pursue a common goal: together, we have the power to build a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come," said Serge Wilmes, Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity.
"Luxembourg, like the rest of the world, is facing the emergence of new environmental, health and economic pressures due to climate change. In this context, research and innovation results can be a powerful driver for a well-informed and agile national strategy," added Dirk Fransaer, ad interim CEO of LIST.
