Data Integration in the Life Sciences: DILS2017

Published on 16/11/2017

On 14-15 November 2017 was held the Twelfth International Conference on Data Integration in the Life Sciences 2017 (DILS2017) in Luxembourg city. DILS2017 was organized by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the University of Luxembourg with the support of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), Agence eSanté, Springer and ACM Digital Library.

DILS provided a forum for the discussion of challenges and technical solutions to address data integration and knowledge management in the life sciences. The advent of “Semantic Web” and “Big Data” in literally every domain within the area, coming from high-throughput analytical techniques, large clinical data repositories, biomedical literature and online resources, throw up exciting new opportunities accompanied with key challenges to be addressed.

With the aim to foster discussion, exchange, and innovation in research and development in the areas of data integration, data analytics and knowledge management for the life sciences, the conference brought together about 30 participants. Researchers and professionals from biology, environment, medicine, computer science and engineering had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience in the field.

DILS was held for the first time in 2004 in Germany and the years after worldwide (USA, France, United Kingdom, Canada) until this year in Luxembourg.
