From winemaking by-product to dietary supplement

Published on 23/03/2018

In the scope of the ongoing collaboration between Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and beauty product leader PM International AG, a new research and innovative project has officially been introduced on 22 March 2018 at LIST’s premises in Belvaux.

The newly launched project is called "Innovative and sustainable solutions for developing new bioactive dietary supplements from Luxembourg winery by-products" (ACTIVITIS) and aims at developing a dietary supplement from the by-products of Luxembourg's wine industry.

The global headquarters of PM International in Schengen is right at the heart of Luxembourg’s wine industry and it is here that PM International and LIST have identified the source of their latest partnership. It is to develop a product providing unique health-promoting properties produced using co-products from the Luxembourg wine industry.

The main objective of the ACTIVITIS project is to extract secondary plant compounds from grape pomace to develop an innovative immuno-stimulating dietary supplement in a sustainable way and in the context of the circular economy. It will involve a cutting-edge green extraction process using equipment installed as part of LIST’s environmental activities and more precisely as part of its GreenTech platform.
