International Symposium 2019 – The emergence of the Smart City: Call is open

In the context of its activities in Smart Cities, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is pleased to announce that the International Symposium 2019 "Perspectives on the transformation of management and public organizations" will take place on 5-6 March in Luxembourg.

The International Symposium 2019 is organized by LIST in collaboration with the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) and in partnership with l’Ecole nationale d’administration publique (ENAP) and Chaire Gutenberg 2009 – ENA. The target audience of this public is composed of public leaders, high-civil servants and public services professionals, Private consultants, Consultancy firms, IT Providers, doctoral students and research and teaching staff interested or working on designing policies and/or the management of Smart City on the international scale whether French-speaking or not.

The topic of this tenth edition will focus on the emergence of smart cities and the managerial, technological, organizational, socio-economic and geographical changes brought about by the complexity of the stakes and the challenges to be addressed concerning urban development in the future. As the president and founder of the International symposium explains, Bachir Mazouz from ENAP Québec, “this annual event aims to promote a culture of discussion and debate between public leaders, High civil servant, researchers, and private consultants. These discussions should lead to the formulation of new knowledge for the design and the development of new practices for Smart Cities."

The international symposium will be followed by the International Doctoral Research workshop in Management and strategy of public organisations (ADIMAP) to be held on 7 March 2019. ADIMAP, combined with the international symposium testifies to the willingness to bring together young French-speaking PhD students and experienced researchers addressing emerging issues in the field.

Call for papers – deadline 18 SEPTEMBER 2018

The call for papers is open and a paper version can be downloaded online in PDF format. The topics are the following : 

  • Focus n°1: Public governance of Smart Cities
  • Focus n°2: Management and economics of technological infrastructures in Smart Cities
  • Focus n°3: Management and economics of Smart Cities in the spotlight of transport system modelling and mobility
  • Focus n°4: Management and economics of the technological, sectorial, territorial stakeholders and the citizens of the smart cities
  • Focus n°5: Management, economics and ethics of big data, cyber security, public freedoms and data protection of Smart Cities
  • Focus n°6: Health sector in Smart Cities
  • Focus n°7: The labour market in Smart Cities 
  • Focus n°8: Smart Cities: “Cities and the challenge of intelligence”

The aim of these thematics is to highlight the interdisciplinary principles and complexity of the systems. Round tables and thematic workshops will be organized and more details will be communicated soon. Technology demonstrators dedicated to the themes of the International Symposium will be presented by the partner companies.

Registration will be available online from 10.10.2018 and call for papers is already open.
