Sealed as Luxembourg’s largest public-private partnership in November 2016, the pairing of Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and Goodyear's expertise in developing the next generation of tyres is more than meeting expectations. That was the verdict at the end of a partnership meeting on 15 June 2018 in Esch-sur-Alzette to take stock of its achievements and look to what is next. About fifty people from both LIST and Goodyear took part.
During this day that began with words of welcome from Dr. Sylvie Fromentin (LIST) and Dr. Benoit Duez (Goodyear), the project’s players ran through progress on the project’s component parts, including: Alternative Filler, Alternative Polymer Technologies, Robust Performance Additives, Structural Material, Tire Data. The next part of the morning was dedicated to the economic and research ecosystem in Luxembourg.
The Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) introduced their support to public-private partnerships, doctoral training and other opportunities to researchers on the project. Dr. Beatriz Basterra Beroiz, a young researcher hired by Goodyear, shared her story on how she was able to develop and capitalise on the skills she developed at Goodyear while working on her PhD. Luxinnovation then introduced aspects of interest on the automotive industry in Luxembourg and projects of common interest, before DELPHI Technologies completed the presentations with a session on “RDI of new powertrain technologies to meet future regulatory challenges”.
The day’s success that ended in a relaxed and recreational atmosphere, was a fitting tribute to a blossoming partnership, which all means that the journey of LIST to becoming a fully-fledged Research and Technology Organization (RTO) is well on track.
