Published on 11/06/2015

Dr Jenny Renaut, a researcher in the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), has recently been appointed as a member of the Scientific Committee of the European framework programme “COST – European Cooperation in Science and Technology”.

An expert in the field of proteomics, the study of proteins in living organisms, Dr Renaut holds a PhD in plant science from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve (BE) and from 2006 to 2014 was responsible for the proteomic research platform at the Public Research Centre Gabriel Lippmann (now the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology after merging with CRP Henri Tudor.) She has collaborated with numerous laboratories from Europe, Japan, South Korea and the USA, and has been a member of a several international scientific committees. Dr Renaut has been involved in a number of COST Actions, leading Action FA0603 on Plant Proteomics in Europe from 2007 to 2011, holding responsibility for the Short-term Scientific Missions of Action FA1002 on Farm Animal Proteomics, and acting as a member of the managing committee for a number of other COST Actions focusing on allergy risk assessment, stress tolerance in plants and phenotyping at plant and cellular level.

As a member of the COST Scientific Committee, Dr Renaut will help to steer the scientific and technological orientation of COST by selecting proposals, providing supervision and final assessment of COST Actions and providing advice on scientific and technological matters to the Committee of Senior Officials.

Supporting trans-national cooperation among researchers, engineers and scholars across Europe since its creation in 1971, COST funds the networking activities of scientists and researchers in all science and technology fields through COST Actions. These Actions involve a minimum of five COST countries and last four years, supporting researchers with tools such as workshops, conferences, training schools, etc. Supported by the European funding programme Horizon2020, COST complements the EU Framework Programmes, acting as a bridge towards the scientific communities outside the EU and facilitating the mobility of researchers across Europe.

LIST would like to congratulate Dr Renaut on her appointment, which serves as recognition of the quality and significance of her contribution to research in Europe and further increases recognition of LIST on an international level.
