Makerfest 2017: Engage in new technologies & become creative in a world without boundaries!

Published on 14/12/2017

On 11-12 December 2017, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) participated in the Makerfest event that was organised at the Forum Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg city.

The event celebrated the second year of BEE CREATIVE, a national initiative promoting creativity, talent and entrepreneurship spirit in the context of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) among young people. This was the third Makerfest edition made for technology young lovers to express their digital creativity. They could discover the Luxembourg's Maker Movement: Coding, Technology, Wearables, Digital Design, Robots, 3D-Print, Gaming and much more.

Supporting the initiative, LIST’s researchers Valérie Maquil, Lou Schwartz, Christian Moll and Johannes Hermen welcomed visitors on the institute’s booth where the Bee Creative for Kids project was presented. Young visitors discovered “Kniwwelino” microcontroller developed by LIST’s team. Kniwwelino is a micro-controller development platform composed of a board (hardware consists of a 5x5 LEDs matrix, a RGB LED, two push buttons, a WiFi stack and additional ports to additional sensors and other peripherals) and a visual programming tool yet available online on doku.kniwwelino.lu.

Around 200 kids participated to the LIST’s booth and created their own idea of a connected object with the Kniwwelino. Kniwwelino is supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) in the context of the PSP project Bee Creative for Kids
