In the framework of its activities in Materials Research and Technology (MRT), the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and its partner Luxinnovation recently organised a business development mission in collaboration with the Luxembourg trade and investment office (LTIO) in San Francisco (USA).

LIST’s representatives, Dr. Vincent Berthe and Dr. Henri Perrin, and their partners visited San Francisco on 25-26 January 2018 following the CleanTech conference. The aim of the mission was to promote the Luxembourg’s material cluster as well as the national composite initiative and their cutting edge equipment and high level competence in frame of the National Composite Centre-Luxembourg (NCC-L). One of key-objectives of the national composite initiative is to serve as a vehicle to attract foreign investment to Luxembourg through the creation of new companies, the reinforcement of the nation branding as well as the increase of the employment rate and the national skills level.

California based companies have been selected and approached by the strategic intelligence department of Luxinnovation regarding their targeted market, innovation level and the complementary regarding the existing Luxembourg’s ecosystem. A large range of topics have been discussed, from nanocomposite coating formulation and treatment process until structural composite material for large scale high pressure tank.

The mission ended up with the visit of Stanford University, one of the world's leading teaching and research institutions. It represents a first but significant step in frame of the strong partnership LIST is willing to develop with companies and organisations in field of composite in California and in particular across the San Francisco area.
