As part of the partnership between the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), LIST attended Mediterranean Economic Week (Semaine Economique de la Mediterranée - SEM), held in Marseille (FR) from 2 to 4 November 2016.
The theme of the 10th edition of SEM, which aims to promote the many regional initiatives that contribute to economic development in the area, was "Digital Technology for a Connected Mediterranean".
Mediterranean Economic Week makes a comprehensive and researched contribution to the issue of economic development in the Mediterranean region. In this context, LIST attended and was represented by Dr Aziz Zenasni (Director of Programs) and Bernard Lambeaux (Project Management Officer). This exchange is well aligned with the LIST/MAE goal of promoting the transfer of technology to countries in the southern Mediterranean, and more specifically to support sustainable mobility between these countries and Luxembourg via Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) based solutions.
On Thursday 3 November, Dr Zenasni spoke at the conference on "Digital technology, sustainable development and tourism transition: a new economy for the Mediterranean region", aiming to present several well-honed schemes, from remote training to the creation of a "Big Data VERTueux" [an environmentally friendly big data centre], paving the way for the first Euromediterranean tourism transition and sustainable development intelligence unit. H spoke on the topic of new ICT prospects and developments.
