From 19 to 21 March 2018, on the invitation of the French President Emmanuel Macron, TRH the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess went to France for a state visit.

Their Royal Highnesses were accompanied by the Prime Minister, Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Minister of Internal Security, Minister of Defence, Étienne Schneider, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Minister for Immigration and Asylum Policy, Jean Asselborn, the Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructures, François Bausch, and the Minister for Family and Integration, Minister for the Greater Region, Corinne Cahen.

Within the framework of this state visit, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), represented by Prof. Dr Eric Dubois, head of LIST activities in the IT for Innovative Services Department, was part of the Luxembourgish economic delegation, in which over 200 officials accompanied the Grand-Ducal couple.

LIST represented in France - 19 and 20 March

In this context, on 19 March 2018, Dr Dubois attended the French-Luxembourgish forum entitled “France-Luxembourg: more than just neighbours!” representing Fernand Reinig, CEO a.i. of LIST, on the occasion of a lunch between senior economic officials (cf SIP photo).

This meeting was organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, with the support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Paris Ile de France, at the CCI premises in Paris, in the presence of TRH the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, Mr Etienne Schneider, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Mr Pierre Gramegna, Minister of Finance and other high-ranking French and Luxembourgish representatives.

On the occasion of this French-Luxembourgish economic forum, there were numerous discussions, the creation of a coalition and the signing of different agreements between the two countries. It also included a session dedicated to IT, which showcased the national initiative related to the supercomputer (High Performance Computing and Big Data) and the importance of data exploitation for energy and mobility providers.

On 20 March, LIST took part in a visit to the International Week of Transport and Logistics (SITL) exhibition, organized by the Cluster for Logistics. SITL Europe is the most important event for the transport, logistic chain and supply chain sector. The event brought together all areas of transport and logistics with the aim of persuading them to work together using a multimodal approach from beginning to end. This was the ideal opportunity for Dr Dubois to visit some of the Luxembourgish stands (CFL Multi-modal, Jost Group, Transalliance, etc.).  Overall, the importance of the digital revolution in this sector was emphasized, with a particular focus on subjects such as data analysis, block chains, etc.

LIST’s participation in this state visit enabled the institute to present its activities and establish different contacts in the Big Data, cybersecurity and logistics domains.
