LIST’s newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Thomas Kallstenius, took up his role at the head of Luxembourg’s biggest Research and Technology Organisation last Friday, February 1st 2019.

The new CEO was officially welcomed during a morning session of the Institute’s Executive Committee during which former CEO a.i. Fernand Reinig formally handed over the operational lead to his Swedish counterpart. In an internal letter addressing LIST staff published last Friday, Kallstenius said : "We are one team now, and I want to use our collective intelligence to see how we can innovate with even more impact".

A trained physicist with a Ph.D.  in Materials Science, the new CEO describes himself as being both passionate and experienced in promoting scientific research and innovation. The translation of research outcomes into socio-economic and commercial impacts has always been his mission and main driving force of his career. As he put it in his own words: “ As a techno-optimist at heart, I believe our research can and will contribute to making the world a better place. We need to think globally but act locally, taking a leading role in the transformation of the Luxembourgish economy towards a trusted information and intelligence economy. With its strategic location and strong local support, I believe LIST is in a prime position to develop into a world-leading research institute within its fields of expertise. We have all the assets to make this happen - Exceptional talent, great infrastructure, and an evolving eco-system of research and innovation partners.”
