Description

Modeling is inherently a collaborative process, involving multiple stakeholders with different expertise and technical levels, often using a myriad of modeling tools, each one tailored to their individual profiles. This poses a major interoperability challenge, even more when we want this collaboration to happen in real-time and without relying on a centralized node. Indeed, a centralized architecture introduces scalability, privacy and reliability concerns. In this sense, this paper presents ModelFed, a federated protocol for real-time collaboration across heterogeneous and distributed modeling platforms. ModelFed, currently focused on data models but extendable to others, enables participant platforms to maintain their own data, policies, and model representations while synchronizing changes efficiently. We evaluate our approach in a multi-platform modeling environment, demonstrating consistent model synchronization and practical efficiency for distributed stakeholders.
