Master Student Internship in Human Digital Twin for Collaborative Robotics (M/F)

The ITIS department of LIST is looking for a trainee for a mission of research and development focused on prototyping and experimenting a digital twin for a human worker in the context of human-robot collaboration in an Industry 4.0 environment.

The internship will take place at the premises of LIST in the “Maison de l’Innovation” situated in Esch/Alzette, Luxembourg. The successful candidate will join the ADAPT research group, which focuses on Knowledge-based Context-Aware Adaptive Systems, in the HDCE unit.

The intern will be supervised by the ADAPT group leader and a PhD Student, with whom she/he will work closely in collaboration. She/he will be integrated in our multidisciplinary team and will benefit from the interaction and advice from the other team members as well. In parallel, our research environment encourages the spirit of initiative and autonomy, so the intern will be given the possibility to develop his/her own ideas to progress the project.




This project aims at prototyping a use-case for the Human Digital Twin concept, applied to the adaptation of a cobot behaviour in collaborative robotics. The context is Cyber-Physical-Social System (CPSS) environments, where industrial shop floors can be monitored and adapted from IOT (Internet of Things) sensors from inside and outside of the industrial settings.

The expected candidate missions will be the following:

  • Make a state of the art survey on the concept of digital twin linked to the human worker modelling and human factors in Industry 4.0
  • Propose a conceptual model of a Human Digital Twin (HDT)
  • Design and prototype an autonomous smart agent infrastructure to facilitate interactions between the HDT and the IOT and machines/robots in the CPSS
  • Apply the smart agent approach to the adaptation of a cobot to changes of behaviours of the human worker with whom it collaborates

The candidate will work closely with a PhD student, collaborating to the research undertaken, and will be integrated in a research team working on related subjects. The work can be conducted fully in simulation, using suitable tools and libraries, and can potentially be applied to a real robotic arm.





  • Master 2/Eng. School (last year)


  • Knowledge of the Cyber Physical System field, and of the Digital Twin concept
  • Familiar with Industry 4.0 and Collaborative Robotics
  • Proven experience in Autonomous Agents and/or Artificial Intelligence (Reinforcement Learning)
  • Programing skills: Python, Java
  • Frameworks: Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch (with Python)
  • Competences in robot programming (ROS), or user modelling and personalisation
  • Able to work in a research environment


  • English and French are required
