Master Student Internship in the Development of a software application for large knowledge graphs comparison (M/F)

Référence : ITIS-2020-Intern-001

Type: Stagiaire
Type de contrat: Stage
Durée: 6 months
Lieu de travail: Belval

The ITIS department of LIST is looking for a trainee for a mission of research and development focused on the development of a software application for large knowledge graphs comparison.
The internship will take place at the premises of LIST in the “Maison de l’Innovation” situated in Esch/Alzette, Luxembourg.

The successful candidate will join the ADAPT research group, which focuses on Knowledge-based Context-Aware Adaptive Systems, in the HDCE unit. The intern will be integrated in our multidisciplinary team and will benefit from the interaction and advice from the other team members as well. In parallel, our research environment encourages the spirit of initiative and autonomy, so the intern will be given the possibility to develop his/her own ideas to progress the project.

Knowledge graphs (KG) that contain domain knowledge are subject to evolve frequently due to the dynamic nature of Web knowledge. This evolution is rarely documented. Applications that are impacted by the evolution require a machine-interpretable description of the changing parts. The goal of this work is to develop a comparator with extended functionalities that can identify and characterize the changes.

In this context, the trainee will have to develop a software application in Java able to:

  • Identify changes occurring when updating a KG. The provided algorithms must be efficient and scalable to deal with large KG
  • Characterize the type of changes that have been identified
  • Store the changes in database. The used technology will be discussed with the members of the team and will be selected according to the requirements of the final application
  • Provide mechanisms to query (and visualize) the database according to the need of the final application

The developed application has then to be integrated as a functionality of the final application currently developed by the ADAPT group. The software that will be developed will have to be fully documented.

  • Master in Computer Science

  • Knowledge in Java, Web standards, databases

  • English is mandatory
  • French is a plus
