Inorganic perovskite ferroelectrics are widely used in nonvolatile memory elements, capacitors, and sensors because of their excellent ferroelectric and other properties. However, they are expensive and relatively hard to prepare. In contrast, organic ferroelectrics are desirable for their mechanical flexibility, low weight, environmentally friendly processing, and low processing temperatures. Although some of organic perovskite ferroelectric materials have been recently reported, the search for novel optimal compounds represents nowadays a hot topic.
In order to solve this problem it is planned to synthesize a series of organic salts, grow single crystals of the desired size and to create novel polyelectrolyte matrixes that can host them. This work will be done in cooperation between the Green Polymers and Ferroic Materials for Transducers Groups.
The trainee’s task will be to:
The job opens the opportunity to learn organic synthetic techniques (amines, organic salts and ionic monomers synthesis), growth of large crystalls, exiting characterization of ferroelectric properties, basic polymer formation principles, specific knowledge on polyelectrolytes preparation and skills on materials characterization via modern methods.
