Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) Department with is 170 researchers and engineers, to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on three thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, sustainable composite materials and manufacturing and process technologies, including scientific instrumentation. A part of Functional Polymers Unit, the green polymers group develops advanced research in the area of biobased polymers and fillers, biodegradable materials and plastic recycling through green and sustainable approaches. Such polymers and related composite materials are used in wide range of applications such as packaging, automotive, textiles, medical etc
In the framework of a European funded project under the umbrella of the m-era-net program, LIST is coordinating a collaborative project. The project 3DPrintInn aims a developing innovative biobased ink for 3D printing from renewable feedstock.
The objective of this internship is to participate to the development of the ink for 3D additive manufacturing. More precisely the candidate will work on the chemical synthesis and/or modification of selected biopolymers from renewable feedstock to incorporate them as components of ink formulations. In depth structural characterisation will be conducted by FTIR, NMR. Processing of these formulations will be performed by extrusion and the thermal and mechanical properties will be assessed by DSC, TGA and DMA.
The candidate will provide in regular basis presentations and 3 reports including literature survey about the state of the art, intermediate report and final report.
