Dr. Emmanuel Scolan, Lead Researcher in sol-gel and ceramics process at CSEM SA Neuchâtel, Switzerland, will visit LIST on Friday 22 July and host a public seminar on 'Sol-gel technology: from proof-of-concept to prototypes'.
Nanotechnologies have left the research labs to enter the world of industry. The sol-gel processes, a versatile technology to produce metal oxide nanomaterials, as various as engineered nanoparticles, nanofibres, nanofilms, nanoporous materials for instance, have already contributed to this industrialisation over the past century.
Through his own experience, Dr. Scolan will illustrate how sol-gel derived nanomaterials, coupled with an appropriate chemical functionalization, have been integrated into systems designed to applications such as healthcare (e.g. diagnosis biosensors, drug delivery), optical devices (e.g. resistant optical fibres, QLED displays), environment (e.g. air quality sensors), energy, aeronautics (e.g. PSP), and space (e.g. protective layers in micro-systems).
