MED-IT Morocco - Luxembourg in the spotlight

Publié le 07/12/2018

On 27-28 November 2018, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) has participated to the annual international conference “MED-IT, One to One” in Skhirat (Morocco) where a parallel Luxembourg delegation has been involved. Indeed, Luxembourg has been the guest country of MED-IT 2018 and in this context the Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy, has set up for the first time a national pavilion during the event.

For LIST, Sébastien Pineau (Lead Partnership Officer) spent two days together with local professionals as well as with Luxembourg IT experts such as the European Business Reliance Centre (ERBC), Excellium Services, le SMILE – Securitymadein.lu and Etix Group.

About RegTech in Morocco and MED-IT

Moroccan administrations and companies have embarked on a process of digital transformation in several stages. The main objectives are to accelerate the digital transformation of the national economy, to position Morocco as Africa's digital hub and to improve the national ecosystem. These same objectives are at the heart of the "Morocco Digital 2020" strategy. In this way, MED-IT showcased innovative technologies, creating a place of exchange and meetings organised for decision-makers and professionals of the sector, to discover new trends and discuss on current topics of the IT world. Med-IT is organized in Morocco since 2002 and brings together IT decision-makers and exhibitors and solution providers in the fields of Cloud, Big Data, Security, Networks & Telecom, etc.

RegTech innovation for a secured digital transformation

Sébastien Pineau has made an oral presentation on day 2 about RegTech innovation for a secured digital transformation. Digital transformation affects all sectors of the economy and exposes companies with new risks as well as new regulations. Thus, the cost and complexity of compliance have exploded in the recent years. Innovation in RegTech is no longer an opportunity but a necessity to help businesses comply better and faster with regulatory and legal requirements, in order to bring trust to their customers and to generate a competitive advantage. Pineau stated: “It is with this in mind that LIST, in partnership with some of the Luxembourg regulators and representatives of the strong sectors of the Grand Duchy, contributes to the market of innovative and integrated solutions for Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC)”. During his presentation, LIST’s representative also had the opportunity to introduce some of the Institute’s related projects and activities like Regulatoray Technologies for Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (RegTech4ILR) project, RegTech4CNPD, NIS Identification and GDPR Process Model experimentations.

The organization of such an initiative supported by the Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of the Economy testifies to the ambition of the Grand Duchy to strengthen the close ties between Luxembourg and Morocco, on several fronts, for many years, and is a continuation of the actions that the International Affairs of the Chamber of Commerce is implementing to bring the Luxembourg and Moroccan business communities closer together in order to foster partnerships.
