Interactive visualization and Geocomputation

The Interactive Visualisation and Geocomputation group undertakes applied research in computer science with a focus on Interactive 2D/3D Visualisation and Geocomputation. The overall objective is to support the digital and the ecological transition of our society.

The activities are organised around three main Technology Lines: 

  • Geocomputation, organized around the iGuess platform integrating visualisation and computational modules to efficiently handle spatio-temporal data.
  • Visualisation, including tools to visualize and analyse complex networks (ViBiNe, BLIZAAR), high-dimensional data (iCoBiRe) as well as unstructured data (Papyrus).
  • Augmented and Virtual Reality, organized around the TARGET platform integrating augmented Reality, virtual Reality, simulated devices (e.g. radiation detectors) and scenario building modules.

Researchers have a diversified portfolio of projects funded under various competitive calls at national and international level: EU H2020, EU INTERREG, ESA, FNR, ANR, FWF, and NASA. They are also involved in collaborative projects with the industry. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our projects, the staff members have developed a solid experience in working with people with various backgrounds from business and academia. The technology lines have been developed by working with end users and experts as a result they have been utilised within a range of application fields. When required researchers bring in the skills of theur sister research group Data Processing and Statistics which is also a member of the Environmental informatics unit.

The research group manages a Mixed Reality Lab, equipped with state-of-art augmented and virtual reality systems. We also have access to the LIST High Performance Computing (HPC). At the end of 2018, a new large visualisation wall will also be available to support their activities.
