Lëtzebuerg kann Zukunft: discovery day of a future economy

Published on 05/10/2018

After having recently opened the doors of its technological showroom in Belval and its laboratories in Belvaux, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) participated in the Discovery day of a future economy, providing access to its laboratories in Foetz, on 29 September 2018.

LIST was among of the 26 companies taking part in “Lëtzebuerg kann Zukunft: Journée découverte de l’économie de demain” (Discovery day of a future economy) that was organised by the Ministry of the Economy, Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Inspiring More Sustainability (IMS Luxembourg). LIST’s researchers Marc Angotti and Sylvain Gaillard presented to the general public the Materials Characterization & Testing Platform of the Institute and were pleased to repeat the exercise in front of Etienne Schneider (Luxembourg Minister of the Economy), Carlo Thelen (Director of the Chamber of Commerce) and Christian Scharff (IMS Luxembourg). It is the first time that LIST opened the doors of its laboratories in Foetz – located in Technoport S.A. building -  that was created in in 2016.

During the open doors, LIST hosted the company Luxembourg Ion Optical Nano-Systems sàrl (LION Nano-Systems), which is also located at Technoport S.A. - the national technology incubator - in Foetz. David Dowsett, LION Nano-Systems founder, get the opportunity to present its activity and to show a couple of parts of the Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS). LION Nano-Systems is a spin-off from LIST that was created in August 2017. The Institute brought its expertise in materials and especially in Advanced Instrumentation for Ion Nano-Analytics (AINA).

As explained by Sylvain Gaillard: “It was a quite unusual but extremely interesting exercise to introduce scientific equipment to people who are not, most often, very familiar with such an environment. During this discovery day, we had very enthusiastic exchanges with young and curious students for instance. For us, it was a good opportunity to bring the Materials Testing laboratories into the light and to participate in a joint event with our neighbours on the site of Technoport S.A. in Foetz.”
