Personalised awareness-raising activities for Researchers Days 2018

Published on 07/12/2018

Four workshops and a science cafe have been set up by researchers at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) for the 6th Researchers Days event organised by the National Research Fund (FNR). This event, which took place on the 30 November and 1st December 2018 at the Rockhal in the heart of the Belval Innovation Campus, welcomed no fewer than 6,500 visitors over the two days, with high-school students and their families enjoying the opportunity to find out more about what LIST does:

  • the different types of rubber required in the manufacture of a tyre,
  • how a smart house works, and the technologies required for the labour market of the future based on Kniwwelino technology, a development platform for microcontrollers designed for children and developed in the LIST laboratories.
  • the role of material scienceand above all smart materials in providing solutions to today's energy issues.
  • how plants respond to their environment and plant-environment interaction
  • the concept of ecohydrology

During the first day of the event for high-school students, LIST was also proud to present its work on smart houses to the delegation led by Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister, and Marc Schiltz, FNR Secretary General.

Two honorary partnerships

In the fields of rubber and smart materials, LIST has been honoured to work with its long-standing partners: Goodyear and the University of Luxembourg. While Goodyear and LIST have since 2016 been pooling their respective expertise to develop a new generation of tyres, the University of Luxembourg and LIST are now working with PhD students to develop new materials, in the "Materials for Sensing and Energy Harvesting" - project MASSENA.

> We look forward to seeing you again at the next Researchers Days in two years' time, and at the Science Festival from 7 to 10 November 2019
