LIST’s EU project offers dedicated training for urban couriers

Published on 20/04/2017

The Urban Courier (UBAC) project financed by the Erasmus + program will be concluded at the end of April 2017. The three partners at the UBAC project (LIST in Luxembourg, AFT in France and ITL in Italy), have developed a dedicated training course for urban couriers at a European level. This training program is based on the logic of the European ECVET certification framework and promotes the transparency, transferability and recognition of skills and competences.

With the exponential growth of e-commerce, the current urbanization of cities and the increase in population, deliveries during the last kilometre/mile, most often in urban areas, are becoming more and more difficult. To tackle these challenges, public authorities are looking to reduce flows and the negative impacts of transport on environment. They are also working on reducing incidents and congestion in city centres.

In this specific context, the job of urban courier is becoming more and more difficult and requires adaptability skills. In order to accompany these developments and to promote employment the training program was established after defining the business profile of the urban courier and formalized the necessary skills, taking into account the evolutions taking place in the transport and logistics sector. The six areas covered in the training cycle are: 1. Regulations; 2. Ergonomics and safety at work; 3. Information and communication technologies; 4. Communication, 5. Night deliveries, 6. Urban delivery techniques. Each module has been developed and adapted according to the national context of each partner and a final assessment protocol has been created in order to accompany the trainer throughout the system.

The lessons of each module are presented in a simple and interactive way. They complement a possible initial training of the participants through themes that are not usually addressed in the classical programs.

Once the project finished, the results will be available free of charge to companies wishing to offer this training cycle to their employees. In Luxembourg, the modules will also be integrated into a training program for jobseekers in the transport and logistics sector, who will be able to present their skills to their future employer.
