Circuit Foil and LIST renew strategic partnership to advance next-generation copper foil technologies

With a total budget of €25 million, the renewed collaboration will enhance production capabilities and accelerate innovation for advanced electronic systems.

Circuit Foil Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) today renewed their strategic multi-annual partnership during a ceremony held at Circuit Foil’s production facilities in Wiltz.

Supported by the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the partnership will mobilize €25 million over four years to develop the next generation of high-performance copper foils for advanced electronic applications.

The collaboration aims to strengthen technological capabilities, optimize production processes and accelerate the development of innovative copper foil solutions. These materials are essential for modern technological systems and are used in applications ranging from high-performance AI data centres to advanced communication systems and next-generation electronics.

Building on their complementary industrial know-how and technological expertise, the partners aim to:

  • Address the growing demand for ultra-thin, ultra-smooth and high-conductivity copper foils
  • Accelerate innovation cycles
  • Enhance supply chain resilience
  • Strengthen manufacturing capabilities and product performance

The agreement was formally signed by Pascal Cornette, Managing Director of Circuit Foil, and Jurgen Joossens, Deputy CEO, LIST, during a ceremony attended by industry and institutional partners. The event also featured welcome remarks from Etienne Jacqué, Chair of the Board of Directors at LIST, Jurgen Joossens, Julie Mouzon, R&D Director of Circuit Foil and Bianca Rita Pistillo, Lead Business Development Officer at LIST.

Following the signing, invited guests were given a guided tour of Circuit Foil’s production facilities, offering insight into the technologies behind the manufacturing of these high-performance copper foils.

This renewed partnership reinforces Luxembourg’s position in the global high-performance copper foil market and highlights the importance of collaboration between research institutions and industry in driving technological innovation.
Jurgen Joossens, Deputy CEO of LIST, said: “Copper foils may be largely invisible to end users, but they are essential to many of the technologies driving the digital and industrial transformation of our society. Through this renewed partnership, LIST and Circuit Foil are working together to turn advanced research into solutions that create tangible industrial value.”

Pascal Cornette, Managing Director of Circuit Foil, said: “As demand continues to grow for high-performance materials supporting digital technologies, advanced electronics and communication systems, innovation becomes more important than ever. By extending our collaboration with LIST, we are investing in the knowledge and technologies that will help shape the future of our industry.”
