Two researchers from the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) gave presentations related to the topic of Earth Observation during the Luxembourg visit of the European Space Expo last week. A travelling exhibition that aims to highlight European space technologies and policy, the Expo was in Luxembourg City from 16-25 October, 2015.
Patrick Matgen (in photo above) presented "Space technologies to support flood management", looking at new methodologies developed by LIST for extracting hydrology-related information such as soil moisture and flood extent from satellite Earth Observation data. A collaborative tool to visualize and analyze upcoming flood threats on a multi-layered responsive map using a tangible table was showcased.
Martin Schlerf presented "Agriculture from Space", introducing some of the basic principles of land observations from space and highlighting examples of the latest Earth Observation techniques for agricultural applications including precision agriculture and crop stress detection.
The presentations were part of LIST’s research activities in remote sensing and ecohydrological modelling for water security and safety, carried out by the Environmental Research and Innovation department.
