SOIL DAY 2026 | CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

On the occasion of World Soil Day, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), the Environment Agency (AEV) and the Agricultural Technical Services Administration (ASTA), in collaboration with the Soil Science Society of Luxembourg, invite researchers, practitioners, policymakers and companies to submit a contribution (oral or poster) for Soil Day 2026.

This event aims to bring together all stakeholders involved in soil protection, resilience and sustainable use in Luxembourg, and to foster dialogue between science, policy and practice.

TOPICS

  • Soil monitoring and soil health (indicators, monitoring systems, implementation of the EU Soil Monitoring Directive)
  • Remote sensing and digital tools applied to soil monitoring and assessment
  • Management of contaminated sites and soils (registries, risk-based approaches, sustainable remediation)
  • Soil biodiversity and associated ecosystem services
  • Carbon sequestration and the role of soils in climate change mitigation
  • Climate change impacts on soils (drought, erosion, degradation)
  • Emerging contaminants (microplastics, chemical residues, etc.)
  • Agricultural, forestry and land-use practices supporting soil health
  • Any other innovative topic related to soil protection or valorisation

WHO CAN SUBMIT?

This call is open to researchers, PhD students, practitioners, government representatives, NGOs and companies. 

Companies are welcome to submit, provided their contribution highlights:

  • A technological, methodological or service-related innovation linked to soils,
  • A concrete case study (pilot project, field deployment, lessons learned),
  • Results or insights that are transferable to other stakeholders.

CONTRIBUTION FORMAT

  • Oral presentation: 15-minute talk followed by 5 minutes of Q&A
  • Poster: A0 format (portrait), presented during the dedicated poster & networking session

    Please submit a 250–350 words abstract, in French or English, including:

    • Title of the contribution
    • Author(s) and affiliation(s)
    • Preferred format (oral or poster); the committee reserves the right to propose an alternative format
    • Structured abstract: context, objectives, method, results (or expected results), relevance/innovation
