A LIST innovation in the spotlight

The international multimedia news agency Thomson Reuters paid a visit to LIST’s materials laboratory to discover one of its innovations.

On July 1st, 2015, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) was proud to present its work on the development of a Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) imaging instrument with the highest resolution in the world to the famous Thomson Reuters international multimedia news agency.

David Dowsett, a researcher in LIST's Materials Research and Technology (MRT) department, took part in the face-to-face interview. He highlighted the SIMS innovation, which he and his team worked on, designing, modelling and setting up the first prototype. Development of the second generation spectrometer is now underway.

The semiconductor, Li ion battery, pharmacology, and medical industries are just a few examples of the many possible areas of application where this precision tool has the potential to be a real asset.
