Our fields of action

With our AI Sandbox, leading role in European testing facilities, and close ties to national regulators, we offer a unique environment where innovation meets accountability. We keep on deploying next-generation evaluation frameworks aligned with the EU AI Act—rigorously testing AI for fairness, accuracy, robustness, transparency, and more. Our research is pushing into new territory, from multilingual bias detection (including Luxembourgish) to factuality checks and game-theory-driven dynamic assessments. These strengths fuel major initiatives like CitCom.ai and the Luxembourg AI Factory, empowering businesses and public institutions to design, test, and deploy AI that is safe, compliant, and ready for real-world impact.

Frugal AI focuses on building systems that deliver high performance with minimal use of data, energy, and computing resources. LIST focuses on coupling AI efficiency research with sustainability and life-cycle assessment expertise, addressing Luxembourg’s challenges of limited Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) access and energy dependence. The goal is to make AI not only smarter — but also leaner and greener.

Autonomous, agentic AI systems are shaping the next generation of digital intelligence. LIST’s expertise in model-based software development and system assessment, through programmes such as BESSER PEARL, underpins its leadership in this domain. Current efforts focus on multi-agent systems, AI autonomy evaluation, and human-AI interaction, advancing Europe’s capabilities in this fast-evolving field.
