Publication of a good practices guide for construction

Published on 22/05/2017

In the framework of the H2020 research project “Sustainable Urban Consolidation CentrES for construction” (SUCCESS), a guide on best practices to improve the logistics of construction sites was recently published.

SUCCESS is a European research project coordinated by LIST that unites institutions and businesses around a shared challenge, that of reducing the transport of building materials and its impact on cities. The guide entitled "Good practices guide: Construction logistics and supply chains" is a result of a collective effort and aims to provide the different stakeholders of urban construction projects with concrete examples of more or less simple solutions to improve the supply chains and logistics of construction sites.

To successfully produce this good practice guide, LIST and its partners first observed several practices among SUCCESS partners and more generally in Europe and worldwide. Then, they selected the 22 best practices which they described and organized in four parts: logistics operations, policies, technologies, supply chain. Each information sheet is intended to highlight practices, methods or initiatives that allow for significant benefits such as cost reduction, waste reduction, environmental protection or safety improvement at a construction site. Finally, the levels of difficulty, cost and time required to implement each practice were estimated.

"This guide should allow all organizations interested in the construction supply chain, regardless of size or area of activity, to find a new practice to test and adopt," says Samuel Renault, SUCCESS team member.

To go further, the project team foresees for it to be subsequently published in paper format and translated into the languages of the SUCCESS project partners (French, Spanish and Italian). Additional practices will be released by the end of the project.
