Sustainable Manufacturing

Industries worldwide are under growing pressure to cut waste, lower emissions, and rethink how products are designed, made, and used. Achieving truly sustainable manufacturing requires new materials, cleaner processes, and circular strategies that keep resources in use for longer—while maintaining performance and competitiveness.

LIST is driving this transformation by shaping innovative biomanufacturing approaches, engineering advanced material solutions, and creating circular economy strategies that reduce dependence on non-renewable resources. Our ambition is to help industries design, produce, and operate products and processes that are more efficient, more resilient, and far less damaging to the environment.

Our fields of action

We transform waste into value by micronizing plastics and bio-sourced materials for recycling into composites, coatings, and biomaterials. Using AI-driven tools and life-cycle analysis, we optimize material reuse, industrial symbiosis, and waste heat recovery. Our work supports closed-loop systems, sustainable supply chains, and sector-specific circular economy models, helping industries reduce environmental impact and reclaim valuable resources.

We design energy-efficient, solvent-free surface engineering technologies to enhance material performance, durability, and efficiency. Using plasma treatments, reactive vapor processes, and advanced thin-film deposition, we create high-performance coatings while minimizing waste. AI-driven process control and real-time monitoring ensure reproducible, scalable solutions for sustainable manufacturing.

We create advanced coatings and vapor deposition solutions to enhance durability, efficiency, and adhesion on complex surfaces. Collaborating with industry, we apply methods like Atomic Layer Deposition to produce protective, sustainable coatings for components such as semiconductor gas valves.

We pioneer high-efficiency, automated processes for producing high-quality, defect-free composite components. By integrating sensors, hybrid additive and advanced manufacturing, and AI-driven modelling with digital twins and topology optimization, we create smart, lightweight, and adaptive composites for construction, automotive, and aviation applications.

We implement industrial Digital Twins with AI and machine learning to enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and resource optimization in steel, tire, and other manufacturing processes. Energy Digital Twins help design sustainable factories, identify energy hotspots, reduce waste, and test production strategies before physical implementation.

We combine biotechnology, automation, and AI to create sustainable biomanufacturing processes. We design plant-cell and microbial fermentation systems to produce bioactives, enzymes, proteins, and polysaccharides, and develop fungal cell factories that convert waste streams into valuable products for food, industrial enzymes, and biochemicals.

We design bio-based and recyclable polymers, vitrimers, and particulate materials that combine high performance with reduced environmental impact. Using waste-derived fillers, advanced processing, and green valorization of food biopolymers, we create innovative, circular materials for applications in composites, coatings, adhesives, and food, nutraceutical, and cosmetic products.

We focus on designing and optimizing materials for scalable quantum technologies, including silicon carbide semiconductors with improved spin performance. We develop photonic integrated circuits, benchmark robust quantum chips, and collaborate with leading research and industry partners to advance quantum communication and technology.

Our solutions

By developing cleaner materials, smarter production technologies and more efficient energy solutions, we help industries reduce impact, boost performance and move toward a more resilient, low-carbon future.
