Among the key actors, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is prominently featured for its role in advancing next-generation connectivity, from 5G/6G networks to AI-driven systems shaping future digital services.
Powering connected mobility, smart cities, and mission-critical systems
The report highlights LIST’s research activities dedicated to advancing telecommunications technologies across the full innovation spectrum. From fifth- and sixth-generation (5G/6G) mobile networks to beyond, LIST develops AI-driven networking solutions, network digital twins, and flexible architectures spanning terrestrial and satellite systems.
Its work also addresses reliable, time-critical and vehicular communications, as well as self-managing networks orchestrating data and computing across the edge–cloud continuum. These capabilities are essential for enabling connected mobility, smarter cities, and mission-critical digital services.
In parallel, LIST develops enabling technologies such as ferroelectric materials and transparent phased-array antennas, supporting 5G/6G vehicle connectivity and future Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) applications—ensuring innovation from materials to network intelligence.
Helping partners develop, test, and scale connectivity solutions
The report also features several flagship projects illustrating LIST’s role across different stages of technological maturity:
- 5G-META enables the development of network-aware applications by combining network exposure, digital twinning and real-world experimentation.
- 6G-TWIN lays the foundation for AI-native 6G systems integrating network digital twins for real-time optimization and control.
- SMARTSPIRES transforms the Belval campus into a smart city living lab, combining 5G, edge computing, and AI-driven use cases as close as possible to the end-users.
Sébastien Faye, Head of the Distributed and Intelligent Connectivity (DISCO) Group, comments: “LIST contributes to Luxembourg’s well-established and highly specialized telecommunications sector, which builds on a strong interplay between public support and private expertise, while benefiting from active participation in European programmes and alignment with EU strategic priorities. By covering the full spectrum from early-stage research to near-market solutions, LIST supports continuous innovation, strengthens technological sovereignty, and helps translate research into tangible impact for the sector.”
LIST’s presence in this edition reflects its central role in shaping a resilient, innovative, and future-ready connectivity landscape in Luxembourg.
The Luxembourg Connectivity Report 2026 is a comprehensive, data-driven overview of Luxembourg's telecom and digital infrastructure. It highlights key facts, sector performance, strategic developments across six different chapters.
